The recent Meningitis outbreak has raised concerns around how to properly treat areas to keep us safe and prevent the spread. Optimal health and safety is vital to ensure outbreaks like the current situation are prevented and kept at a minimal. We’re here to support you in reducing the spread.

What is Meningitis?

Meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or, more rarely, fungi. Viral meningitis often linked to enteroviruses is the most common form and can spread through close contact and contaminated surfaces.

Symptoms to Look Out For

Recognising the early signs of meningitis is crucial.

Common symptoms include:

  • A high temperature (fever)

  • Severe headache

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Neck stiffness

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Drowsiness or difficulty concentrating

In some cases, particularly with bacterial meningitis, symptoms can escalate quickly, so it’s important to seek medical advice if you’re concerned.

How Meningitis Spreads

Meningitis-causing viruses and bacteria can spread through respiratory droplets, close personal contact, and by touching contaminated surfaces. This makes effective hygiene practices essential in shared environments such as workplaces, schools, and public spaces.
