  • One year as a B Corp: reflecting on what we have achieved.

In April 2024, we received the fantastic news that Cleenol had officially passed the rigorous B Impact Assessment, scoring over 80 points and earning our B Corp Certification. This milestone recognised our performance across five key areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers. Why We Became a B Corp We pursued B Corp Certification because its mission aligned perfectly with ours. We’ve always believed that business should be a force for good by positively impacting the economy, environment, and people. B Corp gave us a framework to formalise and measure our impact while holding ourselves accountable to the highest standards of social and environmental performance. What’s Changed Since Becoming a B Corp? Joining the global B Corp community has inspired and empowered us to make meaningful changes. It’s not just a certification, it’s a commitment to continuous improvement. Since becoming certified, we’ve taken major steps forward, and we’re proud to share just a few of the highlights from our first year: Volunteering and Giving Back While community support has always been part of our culture, B Corp status has strengthened our commitment. We’ve donated over 200 staff volunteer hours to local causes - supporting those in need, building relationships, and increasing staff engagement through meaningful contribution. Launch of Cleenol in the Community CIC A significant milestone for us has been the launch of Cleenol in the Community CIC which is our very own Community Interest Company. Through the CIC, we’ve been able to directly support individuals and organisations by donating cleaning products, technology, furniture, and our time and expertise. It's been incredibly rewarding to see the real difference we’re making. EU Ecolabel-Certified Products In May 2024, we proudly launched our first EU Ecolabel-certified products, a trusted mark of environmental excellence and product quality. Products carrying the “EU flower” symbol meet strict criteria for sustainability and performance, helping our customers make greener choices with confidence. Greener Operational Practices We’ve made a conscious effort to reduce our environmental footprint, including: Replacing halogen bulbs with energy-efficient LED lighting Introducing a compactor to minimise waste and reduce carbon emissions Implementing a food waste bin to improve recycling and reduce landfill waste These are just the first steps in our broader sustainability journey. Supporting Future Generations We’ve opened our doors to multiple work experience students, helping them explore career paths and gain valuable insight into the working world. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to supporting young people and building skills for the future. Looking Ahead Becoming a B Corp wasn’t the finish line, it was the start of something even bigger. The certification has sparked a new way of thinking and working across every area of our business. We are more accountable, more mindful, and more motivated to lead with purpose. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far but we know there’s still more to do. Thank you to our team, customers, and community for supporting us on this journey. Here’s to year two and beyond.

  • Which Cleaning Product Do You Prefer?

When it comes to cleaning products, there are often several options that do the same job, but with slight differences that might make one your personal favourite. Whether it’s fragrance, convenience, or formulation, choosing the right product comes down to what works best for you. Let’s explore some popular, very similar products and discover what sets them apart. Steritec Perfumed Virucidal Cleaner VS Steritec (Non-Perfumed) Virucidal Cleaner Both our Steritec Perfumed Virucidal Cleaner  and Steritec Virucidal Cleaner  are designed to eliminate 99.99% of bacteria, viruses, and yeasts on hard surfaces in just 60 seconds. So what’s the difference? Perfumed Virucidal Cleaner  disinfects with a refreshing eucalyptus fragrance which is perfect for creating a clean and relaxing atmosphere. Non-Perfumed Virucidal Cleaner  is fragrance-free, making it ideal for food preparation areas where scent could interfere with food aromas. Dishwasher Tablets VS Dishwasher Powder Both options effectively clean crockery, glassware, and utensils, but the difference lies in convenience and dosing. Dishwasher Tablets  are pre-measured, mess-free, and ready to use, making them perfect for quick and simple cleaning. Suitable for domestic washing machines. Dishwasher Powder  works just as effectively however can be increased or amended depending on the level of soiling. Bio Laundry Detergent VS Non-Bio Laundry Detergent Both options deliver fresh, clean laundry, but they work slightly differently: Bio Laundry Detergent  contains enzymes that break down stains and dirt, even at low temperatures (as low as 30°C), with a fresh and invigorating fragrance. Non-Bio Laundry Detergent  uses surfactants instead of enzymes, making it gentle on sensitive skin. For optimal results, you may need to use higher temperatures or pair it with additional boosters like our Alkaline Booster or Laundry Oil Emulsifier. Alcohol Hand Sanitizer VS Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitizer Hand sanitisers are essential for killing bacteria and enveloped viruses, but the choice often comes down to formulation and personal needs. Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitizer  is non-tainting, odourless, and halal-approved which means it's perfect for frequent use without drying out the skin. 70% Alcohol Hand Sanitizing Gel  is viscous, non-tacky, and highly effective. Both sanitisers kill 99.999% of bacteria and 99.99% of enveloped viruses, ensuring clean hands on the go. At the end of the day, the main difference between these products is personal preference - whether it’s the fragrance, convenience, or formulation that suits your needs. Whichever you choose, you can trust that each product is formulated to deliver high-quality results. Have questions about a specific product? Our expert Technical Team is here to help! • Cleenol Delivers COSHH Awareness Training

COSHH (Control of substances Hazardous to Health Regulations) objectives are to prevent, or adequately control exposure to substances that are hazardous to health. An employer must assess the risks from those hazardous substances to their employees and others, before any work with that hazardous substance commences. Substances that might be harmful: Chemicals and products containing chemicals Fumes, mists and vapours Dust Gases Biological Agents (i.e. bacteria) Nanoparticles  As employers, it is our responsibility to protect our employees from harm. At Cleenol we apply the principles of good practice by continual improvement via: Risk assessments Engineering control measures Information, instruction and training Monitoring and health surveillance Planning for emergencies Our three measures To ensure constant adherence to the requirements of COSHH we focus on the following fundamental principles: 1. Understanding the health hazards of the hazardous substances that we use and the supply of Safety data Sheets which are available via our website portal for all of our products..    2. Eliminating or reducing the risks associated with handling and storage of hazardous substances with the provision of engineering control measures and personal protective equipment..   3. Educating, instructing and training all staff on the risks and the measures we undertake to control any hazards. Records of this training are kept on file.   To provide a clear picture that our control measures remain effective, we have implemented constant monitoring and health surveillance systems.   Planning for emergencies Planning for emergencies is something that is essential for all businesses, but needs special consideration when harmful substances are concerned. Continual training and development regarding COSHH is something that we at Cleenol are pleased to offer our customers. As a result, in late 2018, we launched a website dedicated to online COSHH Awareness training.   Initially rolled out to select customers to get feedback and test our course for usability, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. We are now rolling this out to all our customers – an online training portal that allows employers to not only deliver training remotely, but also record progress, so the course can be completed whenever is most suitable.   COSHH Awareness training can now occur as and when is most appropriate for the needs of your staff, but also for your business. Progress is automatically saved, so users can pick up where they finished in the last session.   We have 1300 active users and the number is growing each week! Make sure your staff are up to date with their COSHH Awareness training with Cleenol. Find out more by emailing: sales@cleenol.co.uk

  • 5 Facts You Need to Know About Legionella Bacteria

In Focus this Month: 5 Facts about Legionella Bacteria Have your water systems been out of use during the lockdown? Beware! Legionella could be lurking in your showerheads, dishwashers, pools or water features. Use bleach or a cleaning product that passes EN 1276 or EN 13623 to fight these nasty bacteria. Contact our customer service team for a price quotation and information on the right product for any job: +44(0)1295 251721 |  sales@cleenol.co.uk     1 - Legionnaires' disease can be fatal Legionellosis is a collective term for diseases caused by legionella bacteria including the most serious: Legionnaires' disease – a type of pneumonia. The risk of getting seriously ill increases with age. Some additional groups at higher risk include heavy smokers as well as people with respiratory illnesses, kidney disease, diabetes, heart disease or an otherwise impaired immune system.   2 - Legionnaires' can result from inhaling water droplets When water containing Legionella is aerosolised and those particles are inhaled into the lungs, they can cause Legionnaires' disease. An average of 350 cases of the disease are reported each year in the UK. Symptoms include high fever, headache, muscle pains and confusion. It can take up to a year to fully recover.    3 - Pools, hot tubs, water tanks, dishwashers and fountains could be affected Legionella bacteria have been found in water systems ranging from 6°C to 60°C, although they grow best at 20–45°C. Warm and stagnant water is an ideal growth environment for Legionella.Lower flow rates of water in pipes, like those during the lockdown, can accelerate growth. Bacteria can colonise in plumbing, showerheads, water storage tanks and hot water cylinders as well as cooling towers, spas, hot tubs, pools and water features.   4 - Keep water below 20 or above 60 degrees Water should either be under 20°C or over 60°C to prevent legionella growth. Treatment chemicals are often used in swimming pools and spas to kill legionella. Chemicals like chlorine are effective at killing the bacteria, but they must be used responsibly and at the correct ratios. Look for products that pass the British Standard EN 1276 or 13623 when shopping for cleaning products that kill legionella.

  • Preventing the spread of Viruses

The recent Meningitis outbreak has raised concerns around how to properly treat areas to keep us safe and prevent the spread. Optimal health and safety is vital to ensure outbreaks like the current situation are prevented and kept at a minimal. We’re here to support you in reducing the spread. What is Meningitis? Meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or, more rarely, fungi. Symptoms to Look Out For Recognising the early signs of meningitis is crucial. • How to treat mould safely & effectively.

As temperatures drop and heating is used more frequently, indoor environments can become the perfect breeding ground for mould. Condensation, poor ventilation, and moisture all contribute to its growth. While mould is unsightly, it can also pose health risks if left untreated particularly for those with existing respiratory conditions. The good news is that mould doesn’t have to take over your space. With the right approach, it can be treated safely and effectively. Treating small areas of mould For minor patches of mould, a simple cleaning solution may be sufficient. Start by wiping or vacuuming the affected area to remove loose debris. Mix warm water with a small amount of washing-up liquid , then gently scrub the area. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow the surface to dry. This process may need to be repeated to achieve the best results. Use an effective mould remover cleaner For greater peace of mind, especially where mould is more established, using a dedicated mould and mildew remover is recommended. These products are specifically formulated to sanitise surfaces and kill mould, bacteria, yeast, and fungi at the source, helping to prevent regrowth. They’re quick and easy to use, but it’s important to always follow the instructions on the product label for safe and effective results. Tackling larger, stubborn areas If mould is widespread, persistent, or difficult to access, professional intervention may be necessary. Specialist services can safely remove mould and address underlying causes such as excess moisture or poor ventilation, reducing the risk of it returning. Taking early action is key. Whether you’re dealing with a small patch or a larger problem, choosing the right treatment helps protect both your space and the people using it. If you'd like advice on particular cleaning products and finding the right product to treat the problem, our expert Technical team are available to support: technical.enquiries@cleenol.co.uk

  • Get the most out of your toilet!

We’ve all done it: walked into a washroom, taken one sniff, and immediately wanted to head straight back out. Why does the men’s restroom always seem ten times worse? Bad odours in washrooms aren’t just unpleasant; they leave a lasting impression on customers, staff, and visitors. A clean, fresh-smelling toilet can genuinely elevate someone’s experience of your business (yes, even the loo can impact customer satisfaction!). Understanding the Problem Here’s the thing: most of the time, the fix for that dreaded “urinal stink” isn't as easy as spraying some heavily perfumed air freshener or using up a bottle of toilet cleaner. The problem starts from the beginning. Why Don't Traditional Cleaning Products Do the Job? In homes, where toilets are used far less frequently, regular cleaning products usually do the job. However, in high-traffic environments, these products often only hide the issue rather than resolve it. Persistent urinal odours typically stem from a build-up of uric scale, bacteria, and crystallisation deep within pipework and drainage systems. Traditional urinal blocks rely on strong fragrances to cover up smells. While the area may seem fresh at first, the real problem remains—and continues to grow over time. The Solution: Enzyme-Based Products This is why you need to use more effective products, like enzymes, to tackle the real issue from within. Our edencleen Enzyme Urinal Blocks use naturally occurring 'good bacteria' to address the root cause of the problem rather than just cover up the smells. They work behind the scenes to: Break down blockages and uric scale Convert crystallisation into harmless carbon dioxide and water Keep your pipes free-flowing and healthy Reduce long-term odour build-up Best Practices for Maintenance For best results, each urinal should always have a block in place. Over time, as the enzymes get to work, the block will naturally break down. This proactive approach ensures that your washrooms remain fresh and inviting. The Importance of Cleanliness in Professional Spaces Maintaining cleanliness in professional spaces is crucial. It reflects your commitment to hygiene and customer satisfaction. A clean washroom can significantly enhance the overall experience of your visitors. Conclusion In conclusion, tackling washroom odours requires more than just a quick fix. By using enzyme-based products like our edencleen Enzyme Urinal Blocks, you can effectively eliminate the root causes of unpleasant smells. This not only improves the hygiene of your facilities but also leaves a positive impression on everyone who visits your business. By prioritising cleanliness and hygiene, you contribute to a cleaner, safer world for your customers and communities. Remember, a fresh washroom is just as important as a clean workspace.

  • The quickest way to de-ice your windscreen!

We've all been there. You're running late for work, only to be greeted by a thick layer of ice on your car windscreen. Panic suddenly hits you and you're thinking 'how on earth am I going to shift this AND make it on time for my meeting?'. You've heard it a thousand times before, never put boiling water on your car windscreen but you think to yourself 'it can't be that bad, why don't I just risk it this once'. Reality, washes over and you realise risking cracking your screen will cause a lot more problems than simply being a bit later for work. So now you’re on Plan B: frantically searching for your trusty ice scraper. Only it’s nowhere to be found. You’re kicking yourself for ignoring that great deal on scrapers at your local supermarket last week. Desperate, you grab your debit card—the next best thing, right? Fast forward 15 minutes, and you’ve finally cleared the ice…sort of. Your fingers are frozen, your debit card is chipped, and you’ve added a few new scratches to your windscreen. Not exactly the best start to your morning. Sound familiar? According to Allianz insurance 'So far in 2024, the insurer spent an average of £327 per windscreen claim, which has risen from £308 in 2022, a difference of £19.' People are still choosing to risk damaging their vehicles for a 'quick solution' that ironically will cost you more time and money! The truth is de-icing your car doesn't have to be timely, you just need a reliable and good quality de-icer. Cleenol's De-Icer shows results in just 30 seconds and wont add any extra scratches to your windscreen! Instead of picking up your kettle try Cleenol's de-icer and take control in the colder mornings - Autocleen | Autocleen De-Icer. It's even effective in temperatures as low as -10°c. For the best results, spray the de-icer and wipe with windscreen wipers / rubber squeegee. Remember, trying to cut corners and save time can often end up costing you much more in the long run! The real hack is staying prepared.
